about natalia

Natalia Valerdi-ReeseNatalia Valerdi. Digital media artist, choreographer and arts educator.  I am interested in the relationship between digital media, art and culture.  Using the body as a point of departure, I research the intersection of real-time interactive technology, dance and presence via somatics, cameras and improvisation.

I am currently Associate Artistic Administrator of the Patricia Rincon Dance Collective (PRDC), where I also coordinate outreach and collaborate artistically.  In my recent collaborations with Patricia Rincon, I designed video installations for BODYPARTS, Peeled, Re-Remembering Fronteras and The Myth Project V: Cowboys. Other collaborations as projection designer include working with choreographers Alicia Rincon and Yolande Snaith.

My work with live interactive media include Feedback Looping, Traces, Traces of Water and BODYPARTS (in collaboration with Patricia Rincon).  The last year has been more about working with dance film in collaboration with filmmaker Mark Sisson from Southwestern Community College, where I also teach.

As an arts educator, I recently taught Dance and Technology at the University of California, San Diego and San Diego City College.  I works intensely with Collaborations: Teachers and Artists (CoTA), a professional development program for elementary school teachers in San Diego County supporting the integration of arts into the classroom. I am passionate about making the arts accessible to students of all ages and backgrounds.

My choreography has been shown in Mexico, Switzerland and the United States.  I have performed the work of choreographers Allyson Green, Patricia Rincon, Jean Isaacs and Yolande Snaith.  I received my B.A. in Dance from the University of California, San Diego, and my M.F.A. in Dance and Technology from the University of California, Irvine.  I live in San Diego, California, and enjoys raising two ninjas.
